Research showing advantages of Doula support

As a result of the continuity of care provided by birth doulas (professional birth support engaged by the client), the Cochrane 2017 research statistics show:

  • 39% decrease in the risk of caesarean delivery and improved opportunity for mother-baby bonding and breastfeeding outcomes, further supporting the health of babies by building their immunity

  • 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

  • 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

  • 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief

  • decrease in length of labour by 41 m minutes on average

  • 38% decrease in a baby presenting with a below 5 APGAR score on birth

What is a Doula?

Doulas are birth professionals dedicated to your overall wellbeing in pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Doula’s offer you emotional and physical support, evidence based research, education, pain management, unconditional encouragement and continuous labour support in your home and in the hospital.

Why do I need a Doula?

Do we really need a third wheel getting in the way of our bonding? What do Doulas actually do? Familes ask me these questions all the time …… This picture sums it up perfectly – just one example of how we help – your partner can’t hold you the way you want to be held in labour and do your counter pressure massage at the same time.

Doulas are incredible, we aren’t there to disturb you and your partner, we are there to ensure you are supported from top to bottom, emotionally, physically, spiritually. We ensure that bonding with your partner is increased by freeing up your partner to just hold you. Counter pressure massage is everything to alot of women, it can be the difference between coping and not coping.
